Naughty Moments

Tyler is definitely old enough to have some "no-no"s around the house. There are certain things he just loves that I have made out of reach so that he doesn't hurt himself or ruin them, but he seems to always find something new and exciting. He gets a big grin on his face though when I say "Tylerrrr" and come toward him. It's kinda funny but I try not to make it a game. :) These pictures below are not the best quality since I was capturing most of the moments on my phone camera.
1.) Standing on his little chair! Look at that face! He KNOWS he is not supposed to do it and that makes him want to do it even more!

2.) Standing up in the bath tub. How many times can I say the phrase "stay on your bottom!"?

3.) Pulling on the blinds in my room

4.) Going after Abby's dog bowls. He keeps successfully tricking me and sneaking in the laundry room! I know, you're thinking "why doesn't she just shut the laundry room door all the time and he couldn't get in there?" Well, Abby has to eat and drink and then sometimes I get distracted and forget to shut the door again when she's done.

5.) Electrical cords. What is it about these darn things?? The electrical cord obsession has been going on for months! If he's not trying to pull them out of the wall, he's grabbing my phone charger, camera adapter or charger, USB, laptop charger...etc.

6.) Feeding Abby. This is a new one. They beg together and although Abby's food is in her bowl, she would much rather see what Tyler is getting. I can't really blame her! Tyler accidentally dropped some food off his high chair one time and giggled as he watched Abby's lightning speed get there to gobble it up. Now I'm not sure it's always an accident!

Tyler's First Mini Haircut

We didn't go all the way! But Tyler's bangs have been hanging into his eyes for about 2 months now and it was looking just plain annoying for him. So this morning, Steve took out his clippers, we wet the bangs, and he cut just along the front. I think it only took 3 snips but what a difference! Tyler can see again! And yes, I saved the hair :)

Not ready to part with these sweet little curls yet so that's why I called this a "mini" haircut!

Dancing!

Tyler's dancing skills have progressed a little in the past month from when I first saw him start to shuffle his feet and bend his knees while listening to music. It's so hilarious! Not completely sure if this new move categorizes as "dancing" when he is not moving his lower body much, but I still thought it counted for something! Tyler got a surge of energy last night after dinner and his bath and flapped his arms, giggled, and chased Abby for a good 15 minutes while listening to my outdated iPod music. By the time I put him to bed, he was almost sweating!
First, a little stretching to warm up. He's been doing this a lot lately and I'm wondering when he is going to surprise himself and do a full somersault.

And now, for a few new moves

Baby #2 Starting the 3rd Trimester!

We have arrived at the beginning of trimester 3, folks! I am feeling very good without really any complaints. But I still have 2 important things to get through called June and July...in Florida! Baby G #2 is apparently the size of a Chinese cabbage these days according to the updates I get from babycenter.com.
I had my 28-week appointment with Dr. Breit a few days ago. I went to the lab first, drank the lemon-lime sugary drink in 5 minutes, and then met with the doctor and waited for the hour to tick by before they did the blood draw. My OB practice no longer requires their patients to do any fasting before the glucose test which was nice. When I was pregnant with Tyler, they suggested all patients eat something high in protein and then go one hour prior to the appointment without food, liquids including water, gum/mints. Now, they have discovered they get a more accurate read when the patients go about their normal eating habits without preparing. Makes much more sense to me this way. As for my results, they say if I don't hear anything within the next several business days, I'm good to go. I was fine while pregnant with Tyler but we shall see with this one!
I also got my RhoGAM shot at this appointment just like I did at 28 weeks pregnant with Tyler. What's that? Well, I am "Rh negative" because I have the universal blood type O- and that means my blood lacks the Rh antigen. This would not be an issue except that Steve is the opposite, AB+, so his blood does have the Rh antigen. When the mom is Rh-negative and the dad is Rh-positive, the fetus can inherit the Rh factor from the dad and then be Rh-positive too. Problems can arise when the fetus's blood has the Rh factor and the mother's blood does not (and it's only that combination that matters- mom is negative, dad is positive). This sounds very scientific and complicated (and I guess it is) but it really has no effect on us except that I get 2 extra shots. I have to get a RhoGAM shot every pregnancy at 28 weeks along and then again a couple days after giving birth when I'm still in the hospital. I did this while pregnant with Tyler too. The shot this time actually hurt a little more than I remember while pregnant with Tyler. When I told the lab tech that, she said "Yes, this one hurts. I wanted to make sure you didn't see the size of the needle until after I was done." Yikes! The purpose of the shot is to suppress my immune system so that I do not build up antibodies against the baby's differing blood type. If you are a curious person like I am and care to read more: http://www.rhogam.com/Patient/WhatRhNegativeMeans/Pages/WhatdoseitmeantoRhNegative.aspx

My visit with Dr. Breit was great and he said everything looks perfect. Gained 5 pounds within the last 4 weeks, blood pressure normal at 118/62, my belly measured on target, and baby's heart rate sounded strong (forgot to ask BPM again!). I did get my hand slapped by the nurse for not drinking enough water. She gave me a cool little cup to help me remember to keep filling up:)

A very exciting highlight of my appointment-- the date has been picked for my C-section! (As you may or may not know, I had a C-section with Tyler and we decided to do it again.) Dr. Breit said since I had time to kill before going back to the lab for my blood draw, we could walk to surgery scheduling and go ahead and pick the date. Kinda weird choosing the Birthday of our baby! And the date is....drum roll....
Friday August 3, 2012 at 8:15am

Assuming nothing unplanned happens in the meantime, that will be his/her birth date. That's about the date I expected or I would have guessed it to be a few days earlier. If you remember, my actual due date has always been unknown somewhere in the Aug 3-9 range judging from the measurements in that early sonogram since we didn't know what my date of conception or ovulation was. And if you go by the date of the first day of my last period (like most people do), the due date is right on August 3...so it's a mystery. A C-section is normally scheduled 5-7 days prior to the due date in hopes to have the baby out before natural contractions start. My doctor obviously knows all of this already and still chose August 3rd as the date so I'm fine with that. I will be right at 40 weeks or just over 39 weeks depending on how you look at what my due date is. Ha! Kinda confusing. And although I like all the doctors at my practice, it just so happens that 2 of my favs are the ones who will be on call that day to do it!
Sidenote: When the surgery scheduler was on the phone with the hospital going over date/time, my name and info to schedule the C-section on their side, I was sitting in front of her. She said, "Hang on one sec" to the person on the other end of the line and asked me, "Did you want your tubes tied as well?" That was kinda unsettling. Ummm no.... About as nonchalant as "Do you want fries with that?" Haha

My OB practice also started something new to me since my last pregnancy, "kick counting," starting at about this time. It just means I am supposed to have a set time every day where I specifically pay attention to the amount of movements the baby is making. My doctor gave me a handout that says I should feel a minimum of 10 movements in 2 hours. This baby seems quite active especially in the evenings so hopefully it will always be pretty easy.

Here is a video of some kicks you can see from the outside of my belly. This video was taken at 26 weeks along so the movements aren't nearly as obvious as they will be in a month or two but I still thought it was cool. And I suggest you MUTE the video or you will hear Tyler playing with the most annoying toy we own stuck on repeat because it needed a battery replacement!

The upcoming appointments start to get a little closer together as we approach D-day! I go back for my next check-up in 3 weeks.

Sausage Breakfast Casserole

I have to share the delicious-ness of this breakfast recipe. This has been a Lane family favorite for many years at holidays or when guests are in town. Tastes great and good reheated too! I've had a hankering for it for a couple of weeks, so I decided to make it for us last weekend and then today too! There are a few renditions of it, but here is the one we make and it's good served with fruit:
Ingredients:
2 packages Pillsbury crescent rolls
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 lb. ground sausage (you can use Jimmy Dean maple or any unflavored brand either mild, medium, or hot depending on what you like)
4 eggs
Directions:
Brown sausage and drain well. Mix with cheese and eggs. Lightly grease the bottom of the pan and pat one roll of dough onto bottom of 9x13 pan. Place egg mixture on top of dough. Pat second roll of dough on top of mixture, pinching the seams together.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Yum!

Cravings

I am loving some sweet foods and desserts these days. Whether it be sugary or chocolaty, sign me up. I have always thought cravings during pregnancy were not real. Just a way to be dramatic about pregnancy and have a good excuse for us to eat something fattening. I never really had cravings while pregnant with Tyler (just a few food aversions) but my thoughts on cravings have changed a little the past few months. After each meal, I feel that I have "earned" something sweet to top it off. A chocolate chip cookie or 2 or 3, a brownie, a small bowl of ice cream, some chocolate chips, a mini Drumstick ice cream cone, a mini Klondike bar...etc. Those are some of the examples of what I have had on hand at home here sometimes during this pregnancy.
Confessions: I may have grabbed a vanilla iced doughnut from the bakery the past few times I've been in the grocery store to eat after I leave. :-(  I have treated myself to a brownie right after breakfast a time or two. I have enjoyed some regular Cokes lately- it's been years since I've had a non-Diet Coke!
Am I trying to look like the very recognizable woman below? Oh goodness, no! Must. Regain. Control. (right after I have one more bite of this Ben n' Jerry's cake batter ice cream). After all, it certainly won't be funny anymore if I fail my glucose test tomorrow morning!!

A "Grande" Weekend Away!

Steve and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Boca Grande to see our friends, Katie and Alan, get hitched! Boca Grande is a little island about 3 hours southwest of Orlando on the Gulf coast of Florida, south of Sarasota. Not to be confused with Boca Raton which is on the Atlantic side. :) We had never been there before and let me say, we definitely plan to go back! It was beautiful! Steve and I wanted to bring Tyler along too because he's such a fun little guy but with no other couples bringing their kids to potentially share a baby-sitter with us, we decided to leave him in the great care of his Nana and Grandpa (my parents). It was nice to have a weekend away though, just Steve and me. We hadn't done that since Los Angeles nearly 3 months ago and with his very heavy traveling schedule so far this year, we were long overdue for some adult conversation and quality time!
Our weekend was filled with plenty of sun, beach and pool time lounging, and hanging out with good friends. The weather was beautiful, the venue was so romantic, and Katie and Alan are just perfect for each other. Here are some photos from the weekend:

We were so excited to wake up Sunday morning and get on the road to get back to Tyler. He got an outstanding report from Nana and Grandpa and they seemed to have all had a great time!
